A New Precise Measurement of the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment
نویسنده
چکیده
The muon (g − 2) experiment at BNL has completed four data runs for the positive muon, beginning in 1997 and has just finished its first run for the negative muon. Recently the analysis of a 1.3 ppm result based on the 1999 run was completed and published (aμ+ = 11 659 202(14)(6) × 10). The result shows a tantalizing discrepancy with the Standard Model prediction of 2.6 times the combined experimental and theoretical uncertainty. The muon (g − 2) experiment at BNL is ultimately aimed at measuring the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon with a relative uncertainty of 0.35 ppm.

The hadronic contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon
We present a new, completely revised calculation of the muon anomalous magnetic moment, aμ = (gμ − 2)/2, comparing it with the more recent experimental determination of this quantity; this furnishes an important test of theories of strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions. These theoretical and experimental determinations give the very precise numbers,
متن کاملDisagreement between Standard Model and Experiment for Muon G - 2 ?
In a recent experimental paper reporting a precise measurement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment, Brown et al. claim disagreement of their result with evaluations based on the standard model. This claim is based on comparison with a single theoretical evaluation. It is pointed out that other equally legitimate theoretical evaluations exist in the literature, with which the new experimental ...

Over many years, the muon has provided important input to the standard model: the value of the weak coupling constant GF , strong proof of the V −A nature of the weak interaction, information on the induced weak pseudoscalar form factor gp, strong contraints on new physics from its anomalous magnetic moment, and sensitive limits on the presence of new physics which would cause lepton flavor vio...
متن کاملThe Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment and the Standard Model
The muon anomalous magnetic moment measurement, when compared with theory, can be used to test many extensions to the standard model. The most recent measurement made by the Brookhaven E821 Collaboration reduces the uncertainty on the world average of aμ to 0.7 ppm, comparable in precision to theory. This paper describes the experiment and the current theoretical efforts to establish a correct ...
